CUDAS (NEA)Business Challenge : Solution : BenefitsThe challenge: The National Education Association delivered CUDAS The College and University Data Analysis System (CUDAS)©-Peer, a CD-ROM product which houses 10 years of IPEDS data from many of the surveys with a data search and retrieval engine for years. Xcalibur was tasked to convert the CD Access application to a web-based solution with additional functionality to provide graphics. Solution: Xcalibur developed the website to replicate to the degree possible the capabilities of the CD with similar look and feel. Our goal was to make it easy for a user to generate the information they wanted without extensive training. The average user will be a novice who may use the tool once a year and not remember the exact process for developing the results they want. The tool allows a user to look at trends over time or compare a specific institution to the average for a peer group. The results are produced in both a graphic and tabular form. Users could download the data into an Excel format and produce their own custom reports. The graphic results could be downloaded and inserted into a PowerPoint or copied into a document. Benefits: When users became familiar with the resource, they began to ask for additional reports to be crated and they began looking at data in new ways that our staff had not considered. The system and the data began to expand in value beyond our initial assessment.
