THINKING BEYOND THE PIE CHART: USING DATA VISUALIZATION TO TELL YOUR STORY

In the world of GEAR UP, data is collected and programs are evaluated, but how is the data presented to the community?  Presenting compelling data at the right time to the right people is essential to effectively mobilizing the community surrounding GEAR UP. This workshop focuses on data visualizations that impart lasting impressions and successfully tell the story you want your audience to hear and remember. Participants will 1)Identify effective Data Visualizations by comparing Exemplars and non-Exemplars; 2)Choose a method for displaying data to best satisfy the information conveyance goal, and 3)Create a visualization to achieve the information conveyance goal.
